HISTORY OF POLE

Poles have been used for centuries for acrobatics and circus tricks. The 50’s and 60’s created the stigma we know today about “pole dancing”. It wasn’t until the 1990s that pole re-introduced itself, lifting this exciting form of exercise out of bars and into fitness studios around the world. The first competition was held in NYC in 2007.

 Now, pole competitions are worldwide.
Today, pole dancing, pole fitness draws influence from dance, gymnastics, and circus arts. Dance styles can run from sporty to sensual. Pole is an excellent way to build strength, improve flexibility, enhance coordination, increase endurance and lose weight all while boosting your self-confidence.

WHAT SHOULD  I EXPECT

There Is Some Pain Involved

You will be using muscles you typically do not use. Muscular soreness and minor bruising is expected

Expect to feel exhilarated when you accomplish your first set of skills you never expected to be able to do. Expect to feel muscular soreness after participating in most of our class formats. You may also experience some minor bruising from friction from the apparatus, pole, hula hoop, and chair or from learning new moves.

Burn/bruising is a real and inevitable thing. I tell all members that pole, hula hoop, chair, aerial yoga, can be painful and can hurt.  Then you are probably doing it right.  Now, if you feel like you broke a bone that is not correct. But if it feels uncomfortable and like your skin is pinched—good job!

As you continue to train, you’ll build a pain tolerance.”

WILL I BE SORE

You Will Be Sore … Very Sore

“Pole, hula hoop, chair, & aerial yoga is special in that it is truly a full-body workout. You’ll probably feel sore in just about every part of your body, Of course that depends on your regular exercise regimen. Expect to feel sore in places you didn’t know could be sore!”

ARE THERE ANY DANGERS TO POLE FITNESS

Yes. Many people don’t realize how challenging Pole Fitness can be, and often try it on their own or with friends.  If you aren’t trained properly and if you don’t take the proper safety precautions, you could get hurt. If you don’t use proper technique, you could experience intense back and neck pain, or even serious spinal cord injuries.

Remember that this is true for all sports, so there is nothing to be alarmed about. If you are thinking of starting to take up Pole Fitness, it is imperative that you find an experienced instructor that will give you the support you need to gradually improve your strength and skills and eventually achieve that upside-down move you have seen in movies. Patience is key if you want to take full advantage of the benefits of Pole Fitness.

DO YOU HAVE SAFETY MATS

Safety mats are available at all times, just ask your Instructor if you would like to use one!

We encourage all members to use a safety mat.
